Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a series of high-level meetings with regional leaders on Sunday on the sidelines of the Doha Forum, according to Turkish diplomatic sources.
Fidan met with Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Doha, though officials did not provide details on the substance of their discussions.
He also held talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Sheibani, marking “December 8 Freedom Day” and reaffirming Türkiye’s support for efforts aimed at advancing stability, security, and economic recovery in Syria. The ministers discussed bilateral and regional issues, including a March 10 announcement by the Syrian presidency outlining a proposal to integrate the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) — dominated by the YPG/PKK — into state institutions, while stressing Syria’s territorial integrity and rejecting separatist agendas.
Fidan later met with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to review regional security developments and explore expanded cooperation in the economic and energy sectors.
According to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Fidan also held talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam in Doha.
In another engagement, Fidan met with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide. The discussion focused on the situation in Gaza, developments in Ukraine, and the ongoing civil conflict in Sudan, diplomatic sources said.
The 23rd Doha Forum opened Saturday under the theme “Justice in Action: Beyond Promises to Progress,” bringing together senior officials and international figures, including Fidan, Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.
